Sight Reading Studio will play a random musical phrase and ask you to play it back on a midi keyboard. It will evaluate your note and rhythmic accuracy and show you the results. The downloadable version of Sight Reading Studio is fully functioning. It comes with a generous free 12 trial usages so you can evaluate the program. It has been developed for the new generation of Macs. It is designed to take advantage of the bigger screens so that children or senior adults donÂ?t have to strain their eyes to use it. The notes have been scaled to 225%. They are big and bright and easy to read. It requires a minimum screen resolution of 1152 by 800. If your screen is smaller you can still use the program but certain screen controls will not be visible. You will have to access them by the menu system.
The program comes with a generous online help system in addition all controls have tool tips. It is strongly recommended that you use it with a midi keyboard. You can still use program with just the mouse but it is not recommended. If you donÂ?t have a midi keyboard this program is a good reason to get one.
To install this program just extracted the zip file and drag the Sight Reading Studio folder to your Mac drive. Once there you can create a shortcut and put it on your toolbar. Just double click on the program icon and you are on your way. You will have to make sure you midi setup is configured properly.

Objective
This program will train your inner ear to recognize simple and complex rhythmic patterns at sight. It develops both the visual and audible skills needed to decipher the rhythmic layer of music. You will learn how to play note patterns based on their notational value and you will learn how to notate them based on how they sound. These encoding and decoding skills are similar to the skills used while reading. You know how to spell words based on their pronunciations and you know how to pronounce words based on their spelling. In reading this exchange happens almost instantly. Ideally, the same should happen while reading music. Reading rhythmic patterns will become as easy as reading words. This is a great skill for any musician or composer. It will greatly improve your musicianship. You can have good rhythm too!
How It Works
The game is setup up to incrementally develop the skills mentioned above. First you must choose the rhythmic patterns to include in your lesson. This is easily done via the Â?PatternsÂ? tab in the Â?SetupÂ? window.
Check the rhythm patterns you want to include in your measures. You can save your own lessons or choose from the sample lessons included with the program. There are two modes of play, Â?Question & AnswerÂ? and Â?Rhythmic DictationÂ?. You will do most of you work in Question & Answer mode. Mode one is like an animated multiple-choice test. You must fill in the sample measure by clicking on the correct rhythmic button for each beat. Clicking on the button will sound the rhythm pattern through QuickTimeÂ?s midi player. Clicking on the note patterns inside the measure will count the beats using Text To Speech. Both these audible clues help to reinforce the patterns being studied. The second mode Â?Rhythmic DictationÂ? is a computerized dictation session. The program will play the sample measure and you must tap it back on the instrument of your choice. You must play it back in the time given or it will skip to the next measure. It is a free style dictation test. There is no judge except your teacher or your own ear.

Requirements
This is a Macintosh OSX version only. There are earlier versions of Musical Space Invaders available for PCs and Macintosh OS9. To use this program with an external midi keyboard you will need a midi keyboard with a USB connection. Make sure your midi keyboard and drivers are properly installed.
Installation
Double click on Musical Space Invaders 3.0 (OSX) zip file and extract it to your hard drive. This will happen automatically after downloading the program with Safari. The program must live in the Musical Space Invaders 3.0 folder but you can drag the program icon to the Doc Bar making a short cut. Double click on the program icon when you are ready to start. This is a trial version of the program. It will expire 30 days after you first launch it. It is fully functioning no features have been disabled. This is the only copy you will need. The unlocking code will activate or reactivate the program once it has expired.
How To Use This Program
Musical Space Invaders is an extremely versatile program. It will benefit all ages and levels. Even accomplish pianist will improve their sight-reading skills. The secret to Musical Space Invader`s power is rooted in its ability to be customized for all levels. It also has the benefit of being programmed by a professional pianist and composer.
